Mayor Franklin delivers ninth State of the City address

Everett Mayor Cassie Franklin delivered her ninth annual State of the City address on Thursday, March 5, 2026, introduced by Seattle Seahawks offensive lineman and Everett native Abe Lucas. Franklin emphasized economic momentum, public safety investments, and what she called a "One Everett" vision for the city's future.

Franklin announced several new initiatives during the address. The City will partner with the Boys and Girls Club of Snohomish County to open a new club location at Walter E. Hall Park in the fourth council district. The City also plans to offer pre-approved backyard cottage plans to streamline permitting and expand housing options. Additionally, local artist Will Schlough designed a new mural for the Pacific Avenue Gateway Project near the I-5 entrance to the city.

The Mayor addressed Everett's Outdoor Event Center, describing it as a downtown anchor for sports and entertainment. She said the project is expected to draw 400,000 visitors annually from across the region, while also serving as a gateway for tourism throughout Snohomish County. The City is currently in negotiations for property acquisitions and finalizing anchor-tenant leases.

Franklin also addressed federal immigration enforcement, referencing a recent mayoral directive on how the City will respond while complying with Washington state law. "This isn't about politics; it's about safety, dignity, stability and trust," she said.
